Màrius Torres (Lleida, 1910 - Sant Quirze Safaja, 1942) was a poet and a graduate in Medicine from the University of Barcelona. At the age of 25 years, he contracted tuberculosis and spent the rest of his life in a sanitorium. He wrote during the Civil War and immediate post-war periods, and underlying his poems there is a symbiosis between the physical suffering of the poetís daily existence and the collective suffering of a defeated people. His work was unpublished until Joan Sales published the collection Poesies (Poems) in Mexico, in 1947, and this work was to be a considerable influence on that of writers in the first thirty years after the Civil War.
